What the PUCK!

You ever been told that you were going to get something exactly like “this”, but better. I mean reiterate it over and over and over, assuring you that you would get exactly what you were looking at, BUT BETTER! With a 10 year warranty! I’m sure you have if you are building with Ryan Homes. We signed our purchase agreement in December of 2017. While we were finalizing our selections with the SR we asked several questions about the lighting options that were included in our package. We were to receive 5 half dome overhead lights and recessed lights, just like the model, flushed in the ceiling, and fixtures in the bathrooms, dining area, and foyer.

Recessed lights in model home (canned lights that sit in the ceiling) Fast forward to June and our lights get installed. And guess what? No recessed lights! These lights looked NOTHING like the lights that the SR pointed to REPEATEDLY and said “you will have these exact lights, except they will be LED lights and have a 10 year warranty. 10 year warranty? Cool. LEDs? Cool. Hockey puck light? Not cool. Couple that with being SPECIFICALLY told we would have the exact ones like the model we had visited. Oh and we didn’t even have the 5 half dome overhead lights that we supposed to have. The pucks were EVERYWHERE! Can you imagine how pissed I was?!

LED Lights (puck lights that stick out of the ceiling) When I saw the lights I emailed the SR and PM to ask why the LED lights been installed everywhere instead of the half dome overhead lights and that the wrong recessed lights had been installed. I explained to them that what we discussed and were assured of was that we would receive the canned lights “like the model”. It took them 2 days to respond to my email, when usually someone responds almost within the hour. And I still wasn’t given an answer. The SR stated that if the PM doesn’t respond that day to let him know and he would get me an answer. When the PM responded he said that the lights were correct, as they had “upgraded” the lights to the LED lights because they came with a 10 year warranty and that he apologized for the confusion during the transition to the new lights. That was all fine and dandy, but we were told repeatedly that we would have the canned lights. So I demanded that canned lights be installed. The PM said that the lights could not be installed since one was bigger than the other and the sockets would have had to be installed before the drywall went up. Honestly I call BS, but what do I know? When asked about the half dome overhead lights, the PM said he could install them if that’s what I wanted. I was so confused... what do you mean if that’s what I wanted? We were literally told 5 half dome overhead lights were included with our lights package. With our model we would only be using 4 so we would have an extra one. I want what we were told we were getting. What we signed off on! What I'm SUPPOSED to get! He made it seem like he was doing me a favor by ordering the half dome overhead lights. I don’t need any favors. Just give me what you said you would, you know? I stopped by the model home to double check the lights, to make sure I wasn’t losing my mind. But I was pretty sure that it did not have the mini spacecraft that I had. I also wanted to review my lighting package and speak to the SR since he was the one that told me we would have the cans. First he tried to say that the change happened in November. But we signed in December and we were told “just like these” as he would point to the cans. He then said sales is the last to know when production makes change. How! How Sway! If you are the one selling the product why wouldn’t they tell you so that you don’t give buyers the wrong information? That absolutely made no sense to me. Don’t BS me! But he agreed that they were not aesthetically appealing, HA!

Puck lights on We were straight up lied to, and no one owned up to it. The PM referred to it as confusion, but that’s not what it was. I wasn’t confused about anything, and neither was the SR when he told us. They know those lights don’t look good. Oh and then the SR tried to smooth it over saying that when production makes a change it’s usually an upgrade. By whose standards? Those lights look so cheap. It looks as if we have a ton of smoke detectors everywhere. They literally look like those stick on lights from AS SEEN ON TV. I asked my husband if he wanted me to push to have them changed, he said no. He doesn’t think they look bad on, which they don’t, and that he actually was ok with them. But it’s just the principle of the matter. I don’t like being lied to. To my face. Under my roof. On my time.
